FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LANCASTER ISD ANNOUNCES EARLY CHILDHOOD ENROLLMENT WEEK

LANCASTER, TX/LANCASTER ISD – Lancaster ISD announces its first spring Early Childhood Enrollment Week for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and head start programs on April 6-10 2015 at the Lancaster ISD Administration Building gymnasium located at 422 S. Centre Avenue from 8:30 am to 4:00pm daily.

Parents attending the Lancaster ISD Early Childhood Enrollment week will experience a streamlined registration process and can actually began the process online at www.lancasterisd.org starting April 1.

“There will be an express line for parents who have completed the on-line registration process and a Parent Support kiosk so that parents that have not pre-registered on-line (pre-registration at www.lancasterisd.org may receive assistance and support from a dedicated registration support team,” says Lancaster ISD Early Childhood Administrator Angie Knight.

During the registration process, parents will be able to complete the school lunch application for the 2015-16 school year, obtain information regarding outside resources such as health, dental and provided information needed for the upcoming school year (calendars, uniform information, supplies, etc.) They will be connected to various academic enrichment services that support school readiness throughout the school year such as Telehealth, Ready Rosie, and Head Start to name a few.

On April 7, there will also be an onsite immunization clinic from 9:00am to 12:00pm and the week long registration will be fully staffed with a full support team.

By registering during week of April 6 instead of waiting until late summer, parents will, first and foremost, learn if their child is qualified to attend the program.

To attend Lancaster ISD’s Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4, as well as Head Start program, children must be either 3 or 4 on or before September 1, 2015.

Children also must be income eligible or limited English speaking or homeless or the child of an active duty member of the U.S. Armed Forces or the child of a member of the U.S. Armed Forces who was injured or killed while serving in active duty.

Attendance in the Lancaster ISD Early Childhood program exposes children to high quality academic programs which utilize rigorous curriculum supporting literacy and numeracy development. Children will also be exposed to:

  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)
  • Problem solving
  • Gross and fine motor skill development
  • A curriculum which supports motion and movement
  • Computer literacy, Fine Arts and Physical Education
  • Social interactions
  • Personal responsibility
  • Social and emotional development

Lancaster ISD Assistant Superintendent of Early Childhood and Student Achievement Dr. Helena Mosely wants parents from all ethnic backgrounds and especially minority populations to understand that early education has a vital impact on a student’s educational experience and encourages parents to support Early Childhood Education.

“Pre-K is important for minority populations because children who come from low socio-economic communities come to school at a disadvantage. Research shows those children are anywhere between 18-24 months behind their more affluent peers in enriched language development. Pre-K programs help bridge that gap.”

“Students who attend Pre-K programs are more likely to be high school graduates and more inclined to be productive citizens,” adds Dr. Mosely. “For minority communities that is hugely important because you don’t have disadvantaged children dropping out of school.”
