Lancaster ISD Names Interim Superintendent
Our district has had the good fortune to have been led by Dr. Mike McFarland for the past 7 years. During that time, our academic progress and improvement in fiscal management have led to the receipt many grant opportunities and the establishment of external partnerships. We can proudly say Lancaster ISD has received the highest accountability rating in the state and a record 37 TEA Academic Distinctions—more than any school district or charter school in the Best Southwest area. For four consecutive years, the district’s campuses have all met TEA standards. We have one of the highest graduation rates of the Best Southwest and charters schools and the highest percentage of Pre-K students enrolled in our area.
As you may know, the Crowley ISD Board of Trustees named Dr. Mike McFarland as its Lone Finalist for superintendent. We are happy for Dr. McFarland and wish him the best as he prepares to begin his work in Crowley ISD.
Dr. McFarland and his team here have led this district and worked with our teachers, parents and support staff to transform Lancaster ISD into a district of excellence. And while we are sad that he is moving on, he is leaving our district with a strong foundation and we will continue to show Texas and the rest of the country what public education can and should be—a beacon of light and opportunity for all children.
As a Team of 8, we are proud of what we have accomplished in Lancaster ISD through Dr. McFarland’s leadership, and we would like to see that great work continue. We believe that we have some excellent systems in place along with talented people and solid programs. So, while we must prepare for a transition in leadership, it is important that we sustain our current progress. As a Board, we felt that it was critical to select someone internally, who knows and values the work of this excellent district, as our interim leader.
On Tuesday evening, the Board elected to name Lancaster ISD Assistant Superintendent Elijah Granger as the Interim Superintendent. Mr. Granger has served in a variety of capacities for Lancaster ISD and has proven to be a solid and effective leader in each role. As Executive Principal of Innovation, Transformation and Secondary Programs, he provided instructional leadership that led Lancaster Middle School from school improvement status to becoming a distinguished campus. He implemented the Student in Transition (SIT) Academy and the Academic Acceleration Academy. As the Executive Director of Secondary Education and Accountability, he was a critical leader in helping us receive the 37 distinctions for the 2016-2017 school year and has worked to establish our STEM Early College High School. His most recent promotion was to Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, where he supervised the personnel functions of the district and made certain that we are in compliance with all administrative, state, and federal laws. We believe that Mr. Granger’s experience and knowledge of Lancaster ISD will ensure that the district continues in the right direction during this transitional time.
Mr. Granger will assume his new responsibilities upon Dr. McFarland’s departure. As this transition is underway, the Board will now begin discussing plans regarding the superintendent search process.
Finding the right superintendent is the most important task that a School Board undertakes. Our selection sets the direction for our district and impacts staff, students and parents. We understand that our community has many questions regarding next steps. We will utilize the district web site as well as its social media platforms and communications resources to keep the public informed throughout this process.
In the meantime, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, we invite you to visit our district web site at www.LancasterISD.org and use Let’s Talk, our platform for community engagement and communication.
